Benefits of Eco-Conscious Glasses

Eco-conscious

The ever-growing concern of climate change is looming over our heads. We the people can only do so much in the effort to help.

It is more in the hands of bigger corporations and their efforts in becoming greener and more sustainable. So when we see a company releasing products labeled ‘Eco-conscious we can trust they’re doing their bit to help. ‘Eco-conscious’ is where a company marks a product to be showing concern for its impact on the environment.

It began in 2015 when a video surfaced of marine biologists pulling a plastic straw from the nose of a scared sea turtle. This sparked action, leading to banning plastic straws, which inevitably led to the reduction of disposable plastics in many countries. Now conscious consumers are taking a second look at their plastic glasses.

Eco-friendly Options

Some companies are guilty of ‘Greenwashing’. Where they slap a label on a product claiming it to be eco-friendly but in reality, they still cause damage to the environment. This can only really be fixed by calling out the company and hoping they change their ways. Unfortunately, a huge part of manufacturing and shipping relies on fossil fuel-based methods. So until something changes with traditional largescale shipping and manufacturing in factories, companies will have to do what they can with the limited options they have.

Some brands like Proof Eyewear have switched to sustainably harvested wood. Other brands are adding in offcuts of African print fabric sealed with a bio-resin. Eventually, eco-friendly products will be very common, although, until this is the ‘norm’ we have got a long way to go. The eco-friendly products are usually a bit more expensive but it’s the price to pay to save the planet. In return, you get a high-quality pair of glasses you can feel great about.

What can you do?

If you’re looking at buying a new pair of glasses, make sure to do some research on the best pair for you. If you have an old pair that to need to throw away it is important that you find a recycling center that accommodates old glasses. There they can be given new life as recycled frames are transformed into something completely new.

It is very important to start the transition to a greener way of production. The climate is struggling and we have to do all we can to help bring the balance back. There are now reliable, reusable alternatives that can help and we just need the big polluters to change their ways.
