How to save by buying your prescription glasses online

How to save by buying your prescription glasses online

Buying prescription glasses online can often seem a rather daunting process, but it’s actually a lot easier than you think, and can save you a lot of money off high street optician prices.

Buying glasses online is becoming increasingly more popular as you can shop around and compare prices without leaving your sofa.

Why is it cheaper to buy prescription glasses online?

Like many online businesses, less physical branches or shops means less overheads are passed on to you the customer. The larger optician chains with hundreds of branches all over the country have to recoup those costs, hence why they are usually more expensive.

With less overheads, we are able to bulk buy frames & lenses at great prices, giving you great value for money, and a large choice of frames to choose from.

How To Buy Your Prescription Glasses Online

To provide you with the correct lenses for your prescription glasses, we need your optical prescription. You can enter this during the order process. Your prescription should be no more than 2 years old.

If you have not received an eye test within the last 2 years, simply go to your nearest high street optician and obtain an eye test.

You are NOT obliged to buy your glasses from any optician that provides you with an eye test.

It’s also worth checking to find out whether you are eligible for a FREE eye test. Either way, once you have your optical prescription, simply browse and choose one of our frames.

Choosing your lenses

When you have selected a frame you like, you’ll be asked to choose some lens options depending on what you will use your glasses for. You’ll also be prompted to choose optional coatings for your lenses for added protection, including anti-scratch and UV protection.

You can also choose impact resistant polycarbonate lenses if you are likely to be using your glasses in a challenging environment.

Varifocal Lenses

Some online optical stores will not sell varifocals through their website. This is because a varifocal prescription is a little more complex than a standard prescription, as the positioning of the lenses in line with the pupil is more critical and very easy to get wrong without seeing the patient in person.

For this reason, we don’t  dispense varifocals via our online store, however if you are able to call at our Watford outlet store, we can measure you more effectively and dispense accurate varifocal lenses for you.

Prescription Sunglasses

Prescription sunglasses come in various shapes and sizes. Lenses can be made to your prescription with the tint colour of your choice.

Polarising & Photochromic Lenses

A common lens option is a polarising lens which can be added when you choose sunglasses or a tint. Polarising lenses significantly reduce glare and are very popular with fishermen as they help them to see into the water more easily.

Photochromic lenses can be chosen when you select your lenses with a tint colour. Photochromic lenses darken when exposed to bright UV light, but then revert back to a clearer state when exposure to light is reduced (for example when you walk indoors).
