HOW YOUR GLASSES CAN ASSIST WITH GAMING

Are you an avid gamer? Did you know that your eyewear could help give you an edge in your gaming sessions? Whether you’re playing intense first-person shooters or immersive open-world RPGs, wearing pair of gaming glasses, or blue-light glasses, will enhance your performance and could even give you an advantage over other players.

Prolonged use of digital screens and spending an excessive amount of time playing video games puts a huge strain on your eyes. This can lead to headaches, eye strain and dry eyes, which can not only affect your gameplay and ability to play games but also your eye health too.

Staring at a screen when gaming, whether it’s a computer monitor or TV screen, can expose your eyes to blue light, which is said to cause digital eye strain. Gamer glasses are said to protect our eyes from blue light, like how sunglasses protect our eyes from the sun and UV rays.

In this blog post, we’ll be discussing how wearing gamer, or blue-light glasses, can boost gameplay performance and experience. We will also talk about other ways you can be protecting your eyes and how using Blue Shield technology on your glasses would be beneficial in the long run.

BLUE LIGHT & PROTECTING YOUR EYES

Blue light is part of the visible light spectrum – what the human eye can see. It has the shortest wavelength and the highest energy. Sunlight is the biggest source of blue light, but artificial sources of blue light include fluorescent light, computer monitors and smartphones.

There are some benefits of blue light. It boots alertness, helps memory and brain function, as well as regulating the body’s circadian rhythm (sleep cycle). Sunlight is extremely important for the growth and development of eyes and vision in children.

However, there are concerns about the long-term effects of screen exposure from digital devices. The blue light which is emitted from screens can have a profound effect on sleep, and it is said to cause digital eye strain. Digital eye strain can also cause or aggravate other symptoms in our eyes which include blurred vision and headaches.

The lenses on gaming glasses are often coloured yellow or have a blue tint to them, which is effective at filtering out blue light. Wearing these glasses can reduce the negative effects of blue light exposure, reduce glare and improve depth perception, which can enhance your gaming experience.

BLUE SHIELD

At Glasses On Spec, you can add our Blue Shield to your lens coating which will filter the blue light from screens and protect your eyes. All of our glasses can have Blue Shield added for just £25, which is a cheap and affordable investment for protecting your eyes, especially if you are a gamer or if you have a job that involves looking at screens for the majority of the day.

Blue Shield will reduce exposure to blue light and is more effective than cheap glasses you can find on the high street.

HOW TO PROTECT EYES FURTHER

Here are some more considerations to make in protecting your eyes when playing video games:

THE 20-20-20 RULE

Following the 20-20-20 rule when playing video games can help protect against eye strain and look after your eyes. Every 20 minutes, you should look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This gives your eyes a break from staring at the screen and gives you a chance to blink and lubricate your eyes.

CONSIDER YOUR LIGHTING

Although it is tempting to play video games in a dark room, this can prove to be detrimental to eye health as your eyes are working harder to adjust to contrasting light levels. A well-lit room that has good lighting will mean your eyes won’t have to work so hard, and in turn, will reduce fatigue and eye strain.

SIT FURTHER FROM THE SCREEN

Try to keep your distance from the screen. The general rule is to sit 1.5 – 2.5 times the diagonal length of your screen away. For instance, if you are playing on a 24” screen, you should be sitting at least 36 inches, or 3 feet away.

EYE DROPS

If you continue to struggle with eye strain and dry eyes, then it is a good idea to use eye drops. These are available from pharmacies and can help lubricate your eyes and relieve the symptoms of dry, itchy eyes.

REGLAZING SERVICE

If you’ve worn your specs for years, you can’t part with your favourite glasses, or you’ve got a pair that’s been sitting in a drawer somewhere with an out-of-date prescription, then a lens change could be for you!

Changing the lenses on a pair of prescription glasses is a much more affordable option than buying new frames.

Our skilled lab technicians can take your existing frame and manufacture new lenses according to your new prescription, without any damage to your frame. This means an old pair of glasses can be brand new again. All our glasses can also be modified to add Blue Shield to them.

We can reglaze lenses in plastic & metal frames, as well as rimless spectacles.

Reglazing for standard frames is only £17.00, and a rimless frame reglaze is £32.00.

If you’re not sure if your frames can be reglazed, contact us and we’ll do our best to help. Alternatively, if you’re looking for the perfect pair of glasses, you can get your prescription glasses online with Glasses on Spec. CLICK HERE to browse our range of high-quality glasses and sunglasses.
